Obituary

Christopher Mason Sr (Daddy, Pop, Sarge, Uncle Walter or Fatz Sr to those who loved him) a lifelong resident of Middletown NJ, died peacefully, and on his own terms, in the company of family in West Allis, WI on the morning of Tuesday Dec 4th at the age of 91. He was married to Julia Mason predeceased, the love of his life, for 65 years. Together they raised a family, looked after their neighborhood and community, and explored the open road for years on a Honda Gold Wing. Chris is survived by his daughter Gail of N. Middletown, his son and daughter-in-law Chris and Jeanne Mason of West Allis, WI, his grandchildren Jeff, Sondra, Krystle, and Samantha, great granddaughters Caprice and Julia, and very many family members and loving friends alike. Chris was born on August 5th, 1927 in Jersey City, NJ. At 16 he decided to forgo high school, enlisting to fight in WWII as a United States Marine instead. Thankfully he enjoyed an honorable service as a marine. He graduated from the school of life and was wise and prudent, grateful and generous, a hard worker who was dedicated to his family and stubborn beyond compare. After completing his tour of duty with the Marines, he worked at Fort Monmouth on base for the next 32 years. After retiring from the base, he rejoined the workforce (after 3 agonizing weeks of loafing around), this time as a school bus driver for Middletown school district. His second career meant as much to him as his first, and the many children he watched grow up on his bus and the many friends he made during that time filled his heart with love and joy.

Christopher will be reposing at The Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home 1735 Rt. 35, Middletown, NJ 07748 on Sunday December 9, 2018 from 1 – 4pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Chris's life. A repass will follow at Red Bank Elks 40 West Front St Red Bank. . In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Red Bank Elks 233 Memo Charity or Veterans. The family would like to thank everyone that has been apart of Chris's life over the years.

Hey Unc,
Thanks for being there in my life, and thanks for being you. Given the amount of time I spent in your home while growing up you were like a second father to me. Your home was a place I always looked forward to going to. I think it only fitting that you should be the last one of our family's "Greatest Generation" to say goodbye. The sadness that I feel in losing you is buoyed by the joy you must have felt in reuniting with "Cool" Aunt Jule. Rest in peace, and rest easy.
