Francis "Lefty" Mallahan of Middletown, NJ died on December 11 Lefty was born in Pearl River New York, grew up in Bronx, NY, raised his family on Staten Island and moved to Middletown in the 1980's.
He served in the United States Army during World War 2 in the Pacific theater, participating in several major battles, including Biak and Hollandia.
Baseball was the sport he most enjoyed, playing multiple positions during his school years, but his most cherished memories of the game was as a pitcher; including time played in the minor leagues for the then Washington Senators. Francis was an avid, lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and witnessed many of the Yankee greats, including Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.
He worked 31 years for Morgan Guaranty Trust Company, retiring in the 1980's.
He was a much loved father and grandfather.
Francis was pre-deceased in 1993 by his wife Anne Duffy Mallahan. He is survived by his daughter, Jean Fiorelli, her husband William; daughter Anne Mikolay, husband Dennis; five grandchildren: Daniel Fiorelli and wife Jana Gevertz, Michael Fiorelli, Laura Fiorelli and fiance Matthew Silvestri, DJ Mikolay and Christine Sullivan, Matthew Mikolay and Stephanie Jou; and loving companion, Mary- Lou Morrison.
Francis will be reposing at the Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home 1735 Route 35, Middletown, NJ 07748 on Thursday December 13, 2018 from 2 - 4pm & 6 – 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday December 14, 2018 at 10:30am. Entombment to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
