Irene Imperiale, née Gallagher, of Barnegat, NJ passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on November 6th, 2019 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, NJ at the age of 93, a week before her 94th Birthday. She is predeceased by her parents Peter and Bridget Gallagher, as well as her 8 brothers, 2 sisters, and her son-in-law, Robert MacDonnell.
Irene was one of twelve children of Irish descent born in Jersey City. After graduating high school and while working at RCA, she met the man she would spend the rest of her life with-- Peter Imperiale. It was love at first sight. They married in a double rainbow wedding with her sister, Rose, and Brother-in-law Ben Marchio on Easter Sunday March 28th, 1948. They honeymooned in Washington, DC to see the cherry blossoms bloom. They were blessed with three children (Lorraine, Peter, and Marilyn) while living in Jersey City, before later moving to North Plainfield, NJ. Irene was also a wonderful grandmother to her four grandchildren (Nicholas, Patrick, Daniel, and Peter) and one great-grandchild (Sienna).
Irene was adored by all; she was a very special person, always happy to be anywhere with her husband Peter, her sister Carol, and any member of her large, loving famiy. Irene was the soul of her household; family was everything to her.
During her younger years Irene spent summers in Middletown, NJ in her parents' summer home. She loved being with her husband Peter, going dancing, seeing plays, and shopping in New York City. She always loved going to the Gallagher family picnic, taking long rides in the country with the family, and going to the pool club. Her family will never forget the stories of Irene and Peter's yearly trips to Las Vegas with her siblings and their husbands and wives. Some of her other favorite hobbies included doing the jitterbug, near-daily trips to Atlantic City, as well as fishing and crabbing with her husband.
Irene will be reposing at the Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home 1735 Rt. 35, Middletown, NJ 07748 on Sunday November 10, 2019 from 2 – 4pm & 7 – 9pm and Monday November 11, 2019 from 2 – 4pm & 7 – 9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday November 12, 2019 at St. Catherine’s Labour at 9:15am. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
