John “Russell" Rasmussen – 85 of Middletown, NJ passed away peacefully on October 2, 2020 with his family by his side at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, NJ. John was born on February 27, 1935 in Jersey City, NJ, where he attended Bayonne Tech High School. After graduating high school John wanted to serve his country proudly by enlisting in the United States Army and Navy. When his service was over, he was honorably discharged. He met his wife Eileen and started a family. John spent most of his life working for the postal service as a supervisor. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Eileen, his daughter Noreen, and his sister Mary. John was the devoted father and leaves behind his sons and their spouses John and his wife Laureen, James, Thomas and his wife Regina, and Daniel and his wife Dawn. He is survived by his grandchildren Erin, Kelly, Ryan, Katie, Riley, Jack, and Michael. He is also survived by his loving sister in law Jane M. Ryan. John had many things in life that gave him joy. Some of which were fixing watches, going to flea markets and spending time with his grandchildren. He was extremely handy person who could fix anything. Above all the things that made John happy, his family was what made him shine brightest. He was a member of St. Mary Church in Middletown for over 45 years. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

John will be reposing at the Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home 1735 Rt. 35, Middletown, NJ 07748 on Monday October 5, 2020 from 4 – 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday October 6, 2020 at 10am at St. Mary’s Mother of God Church. Interment to follow after at Fairview Cemetery.
