Obituary

John Toale – 84 of Middletown, NJ passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 8, 2020 at Meridian Nursing & Rehabilitation in Shrewsbury, NJ. John was born on August 13, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY. John received a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from John Jay College. Wanting to serve his county John entered the United States Army. After his tour of duty was over he was Honorably Discharged. John worked as a New York City fireman selflessly dedicating his life to protecting others until his retirement. Then started a second career with the Navy in Point Loma as a Safety Supervisor. He is predeceased by his parents John and Rita. John is the devoted father to Kathleen Lavin, Maureen Toale, and John and Carol Toale. He is the caring brother to Reggie Pepsi. John is survived by his grandchildren Steven Lavin, Matthew Lavin, Peter Lavin, Aidan Toale, and Riley Toale; as well as his great granddaughter Adriana Lavin. John was very dedicated to honoring the 9/11 Memorial and his fallen brothers of the FDNY and all the first responders. He organized and ran the 9/11 Memorial ceremony on the West Coast aboard the USS Midway for 15 years. John had many joys in life, some of which were fishing and traveling. But his greatest joy was his family. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

John will be reposing at the Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home 1735 Rt. 35, Middletown, NJ 07748 on Thursday March 12, 2020 from 2 – 4pm & 7 – 9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday March 13, 2020 at 10:30am at St. Mary's Chapel.
