Marie Castellano died peacefully after a valiant battle with cancer in Lincroft, NJ at the age of 88.
Marie is survived by her beloved children. Veronica and her husband William Streine, daughter Bernadette
and husband Bryan McSweeny, daughter Pamela and husband Kevin Emmerling, son Anthony Castellano
and wife Karin, daughter Christina and husband Joseph Gencarelli, daughter Maria Chiappetti-Lojo and
husband Jose Lojo, son Joseph Castellano and wife Deborah, and her daughter Patricia and husband Keith
She is predeaced by her husband Anthony Castellano (Lincroft, NJ) and her parents Mary
Ann and Harry May (New York, NY), 14 grandchildren, Leah McSweeney, Sarah McSweeney, Daniel
McSweeney, Susan Shaddock and husband Stephen, Kevin Emmerling, Christina Johnson and husband
Daniel, Christina Gencarelli, Stephanie Spruce and husband Robert, Lauren Chiappetti, Nicole Ruckert and
husband Brendan, Joseph Castellano Jr., Thomas Bevacqui and wife Diane, Keith Bevacqui, and Antonio
Bevacqui. Great-grandchildren: Kier Cristofaro, Jaxson Bevacqui, Cecilia Steinberg and Luke Johnson.
Marie was born on November 10, 1931 in New York, NY to Mary Ann and Harry May. She graduated from Pace University. She married Anthony Castellano in 1950. Over the next 14 years, Marie devoted her life to raising her 8 children. Her children remember Marie as loving, intelligent, gracious, humble, generous, classic
beauty, adventurous with a thirst for knowledge.
After raising her children, Marie went to work as a paraprofessional in the NYC schools and then went on to
the New York City Housing Authority, where she worked her way up from a Housing Assistant, Assistant
Manager, and then became a Manager of Carver Houses. At Carver she implemented and supported a
variety of social service, health education and wellness programs during her tenure. Marie retired at the
age of 72.
Marie’s passion was her family. Her family gatherings were most cherished. Sunday dinners, holidays,
birthdays, graduations, sporting events, dance recitals, family vacations and just hanging out in the
backyard were what she lived for. She had a strong interest in culture, the arts and travel. Marie’s day to day
life included significant time on social media keeping in touch with extended family and friends and
following the stock market. Her legacy is her strong faith, devotion to family, and unending determination to
overcome challenges. She will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she touched
Marie will reposing at the Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home 1735 RT 35 Middletown , New Jersey 07748 on Wednesday October 28, 2020 from 3-8pm. Mass Of Christian Burial will take place at St.Mary Mother of God Church19 Cherry Tree Farm Road Middletown , New Jersey on Thursday morning at 10am. Interment to follow at St. Gabriel Cemetery in Marlboro
