William George Assatly of Middletown, New Jersey passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020 at the age of 84.

William was born to Selma and William Assatly on March 9, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from Fort Hamilton High School, William moved to Princeton, New Jersey with his family. He later returned to Brooklyn, where he had met and fell in love with his future bride Lorraine. After William and Lorraine married on October 13th in 1957, they moved to Princeton before returning to Brooklyn to be closer to Lorraine’s family. William, lovingly called Bill, and Lorraine later moved to Staten Island, where they raised their children. They enjoyed living close to family members and to wonderful neighbors that became wonderful friends.

Bill joined the business that his father founded. His father was the founder of Dorian Robes, which was a manufacturer of women’s luxury loungewear. Bill continued to enjoy working in the retail business as a furrier at Staten Island Furrier until his retirement. He truly enjoyed being with the friends that he worked with and he enjoyed his friendly relationships with customers. Bill truly was a charming gentleman.

Bill is predeceased by his loving wife Lorraine and his beautiful daughter Michele. Bill is also predeceased by his brother Richard and his sister Virgenie.

Bill is survived by his loving son William Assatly, his daughter–in-law Tara, and his adoring granddaughter O’Hara, as well as his son-in-law Steven Morrow.

He is also survived by Renee Hannafey, John Hannafey, John Hannafey Jr., Christopher Hannafey, and by his many nieces and nephews, as well as by extended family.

Bill will also be greatly missed and always loved by his in-laws Robert Kane, Margaret Kane and Peggy Kane. Bill will be greatly missed and always loved by family and friends.

Bill was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and he loved to enjoy baseball games, as well as football games, with his son Will. Even though Bill was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, he was “forced“ to be a fan of the New York Giants to appease his son Will and his son-in-law Steve. Bill was a loving father and he loved spending time with his family, especially over a great dinner where he would toast with a Dewar’s on the rocks to everyone that he had love for in his heart.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Bill at Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home 1735 Rt. 35, Middletown, NJ 07748 on Monday, February 17th from 1 o'clock to 5 o'clock.

Bill, I am so sorry for your loss and send you and your family my deepest condolences. When I 1st met your dad, he made me laugh, "belly laugh" and that's hard to do. He had a smile that would brighten up the room and a sharp dresser to add. He will be sorely missed by all those he met along the way and will forever hold a special place in my heart. Rest in Peace my friend.
